New School Year, New Direction, New Passion, New Priorities

... oh and something about a parent meeting too...

Because of the LORD's faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end.  They are new every morning.  Great is Your faithfulness!  -  Lamentations 3:22-23

Remember when you were a kid, and the first day of school would come around?  There is a tangible excitement in the air, even for those who "hate school" and wish their vacation was longer.  I remember the stacks of clothes and new shiny supplies that I had to stare at and not touch all summer.  I showed up to school on the first day looking like a brand new kid, unstained shirts, shoes yet to be scuffed.  I looked as clean cut as the mannequin that the items were taken from... until about lunch time, when I drop ketchup on my shirt, play in the dirt with my new shoes, and do all the things that a school kid should.

There's a beauty about beginning a new school year.  Students have the unique opportunity once a year to evaluate their life and start over with a clean slate.  They have new teachers, the opportunity to make new friends, join new clubs, play for new teams.  Students have the chance to look at the direction of life and make drastic changes, and the fresh start of a new school year is the perfect time.

At INTERSECT, we are pouring our hearts into creating an environment for your student to grow to know and love God in ways that they have never experienced this school year, and here's what you can do to be a part of the journey.

1.  Encourage your student, no matter where they are spiritually, to take advantage of this time of year to re-align their priorities (and maybe you do a little re-aligning too!) so that they can experience their faith in community with their fellow students on Sunday mornings and tuesday nights.

2.  Discuss with your student the importance of leaving past mistakes, guilt, and shame in the past, and resting in the forgiveness of Christ, and seeking the fresh start that He offers us, as "His mercies are new every morning"

3.  Set the example for your student by re-focusing your own spiritual life this school year, and invite them to join you in that pursuit.  You are your student's spiritual leader.  Don't wait for them to grow on their own, they won't.  Don't wait for them to grow because of me, it won't last.  God intended for You to raise your kids in the ways of the Lord, and we're just here to help.

That being said, we are tweaking and refining what we offer at INTERSECT to help your student experience God in a real way, and I'm inviting you to come and hear about some of our plans for this year.

**We'll be holding a parent meeting on Tuesday September 13, 2011 directly after youth group in the CCC event room.  22603 La Palma Ave, Yorba Linda, CA 92887  Google Map
