Greg Curtis, Senior Pastor
I was born in Whittier California in 1963. As the oldest of three, I was raised by believing parents who modeled an authentic and transferable Christianity to me. My first call to ministry came in first grade when my public school teacher identified me as having a pastor's heart. I refused the call (I wanted to be an astronaut·). I grew up in Los Angeles County and made a public decision for Christ at age 11 in front of the small Baptist congregation my family was involved in.
At age fourteen, my family moved to the suburbs and built a home in Orange County, California. We joined Eastside Christian Church, a growing congregation in Fullerton, where I was discipled and trained in ministry. Being very active in both the youth and music ministries, I watched the church's attendance grow from 700 to 2700 over a 5-year period. Through the mentoring of my youth pastor, Les Christie, I began speaking publicly at churches and conferences to crowds of 1000 or more in California, Arizona, and Missouri.
I sensed a call to full-time ministry shortly before I graduated from high school. As a result, I enrolled in Pacific Christian College (now Hope International University) in Fullerton, California. I graduated with a degree in Church Growth that included a minor in Bible and an emphasis in Youth Ministry. During my early twenties, I experienced church ministry from several different vantage points. I enjoyed being a part- time youth pastor at a small church for a year and a half. I later held a part-time staff position at Eastside Christian in the Junior High department. I was also exposed to all kinds of churches ranging in size, culture and denomination during a 2-year tour of the U.S. as part of a Christian band based out of my Bible College. Believing I was called to help start a new church, I became involved in a church plant in Moreno Valley, California as an intern.
1985 was the year I joined the staff team that planted Community Christian Church of Yorba Linda, a non-denominational church plant out of Eastside Christian. I have been on staff here ever since. That same year I met my wife Michelle, an accomplished studio vocalist. We were married in 1986 and immediately began leading worship as a team for CCC as I received the title of Associate Pastor. I was ordained in 1987 by Eastside Christian Church.
I have been the Senior Pastor of Community Christian Church since 1995. As Senior Pastor, I've led the church in developing a mission statement, values, and statement of faith as well as transitioning the church to a purpose-driven model of ministry. CCC is also a member of the Willow Creek Association.
My passion and calling are now twofold: to reach the growing de-churched population in America and to raise and enjoy my family that now includes Chase (1991), Kendra (1995), and Carly (1997).
Cliff Sliger, Student Ministries Pastor / Worship Leader
I was born into a Christian home, and have been involved in church for as long as I can remember. At the age of 5, after a church Halloween party and a lengthy conversation with my dad, I made a conscious decision to accept Christ into my life, and do my best to walk with Him, and a couple of years later I was baptized. I began to feel the call of God on my life to pursue vocational ministry in high school, and with the mentorship and encouragement of my family and youth leaders, I went off to Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester NY to study youth ministry.
In the course of my career ministering to teens, I am continually amazed by the faithfulness and beauty of God. To watch teens grow into young adults, stepping out on their own in both life and faith, is one of the most amazing transitions in life, and I am privileged to play a part in it. My wife, Kristin, is my partner in ministry, and together God has used us to point young people toward a real, living relationship with the God of the universe, the maker and lover of their souls. I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life besides using it to show Christ to a generation that so desperately needs to know Him.
Christa Richard, Family Ministry Director
I am a Southern CA girl who grew up in a Christian home in Diamond Bar, Ca. At the age of 6, my mom sat down with me at the tennis court and I asked her how I could have Jesus live inside my heart. From that day on, God's spirit has been present in my life. I grew up going to church at E.V. Free Church in Fullerton, where I met my husband, Craig in the high school youth group. We married in 1999, after graduating from Cal Poly Pomona. I continued my education at Cal State Fullerton earning my teaching credential and Masters Degree, teaching for seven years in a public school. It was my passion and joy to teach children!
Then, I became a mother and saw the world through new eyes-our firstborn, Tommy (2004) and Grace (2006). I was humbled to experience the joys and challenges of raising children. To be honest, it has been my children that have helped me to grow in my relationship with Christ. They are my reminder daily to depend on God's strength!
God has used my experiences growing up in youth ministry, working with children in education, and volunteering at CCC to prepare me for my role as Family Ministry Director. It is my passion and prayer that we will know, love and serve children and their families so that they become mature, committed followers and reflections of Jesus.
